STAIRCASES! We all need staircases & if we live in a duplex or multi level house, we need them much more. There is a lot of info on staircases, but today we’ll just focus on the size & the space required for Indian living. Yes, staircases can be larger or smaller or be the design element, but let’s not forget, they have a purpose to serve. It seems we can comfortably climb 10 steps. The area we keep our foot is called a ” Tread” & each Tread has a vertical ” Riser” that connects the next ” Tread”.
” Treads” should be 12″ wide to comfortably keep your foot. ” Risers” should be 6″ high.
If you decrease the ” Tread” width you can fall while coming down & if you increase it, you’ll have more difficulty climbing up. The same is true with the ” Riser”.
For Indian use, the width of staircase should be 42″ wide each side & the landing should also be 42″ wide.
We need 20 ” Risers” of 6″ hight to reach next floor if the floor hight is 10′-0″
